The Worst Week of the Year?
A few years back a psychologist in Scotland purported to have calculated that January 23 is the worst day of the year (3rd Monday in January).
He based this conclusion on a couple of factors.
-Mondays in general are considered the most depressing day of the week.
-Winter weather has really settled in, the lack of sunlight which affects mood has been ongoing for quite awhile now.
-There is the post-holiday letdown and the holiday credit card bills have come due.
-In a great many situations the healthy New Years Resolutions have been abandoned and subsequent feeling of discouragement and disappointment ensue.
So yes, it would seem that there are some tangible reasons why the third week in January may not your favorite (or mine for that matter). However, the most important thing you can do is to TAKE ACTION. If you stopped exercising, start doing even just a few minutes a day. If you haven't been able to stop smoking-GET HELP (Hint: hypnosis really works well this)
You also want to surround yourself with positive influences. This can take the form of people who are motivated and upbeat. The right kind of media can help too, not the kind that makes you feel helpless. Like the kind that tells you "the third Monday in January is the worst of the year and there is nothing you can do about it, that's just the way it is."
